In this tutorial i will teach you guys how to get Xchat 2 and how to use it for Nexuiz related channels.

Step 1: Getting Xchat 2
Before we can get in to the tutorial you first need to download the program: Click Here. This link might get outdated, if so just google Xchat 2 and you should find the website very easy.

Step 2: Getting Started
First of all just install the program, i dont think thats something i need to get into because i you ever installed a program, its not that hard!

Now if you open up Xchat 2 there should pop up a screen called "NetworkList". Just fill in your userinformation at the top, see the screenshot on how i did it. Now in Networks you choose out of the list "Quakenet". When you have done that just press "Connect".

Step 3: Getting a Quakenet account
To get an account just type in the typing box: /msg Q HELLO youremail@address youremail@address, e.g.: /msg Q HELLO vega@gmail.com vega@gmail.com. You will then recieve an email with a link in it, click on it and a site will pop up. Fill in everything you need to and at the end you will recieve your password. From now on you can auth by doing: /auth username password. If this doesn't work you can also do: /msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH username password, but this isn't recommended because of security reasons. So auth actually just means logging in for those who didn't realise that yet.

You can also Automaticly get authed when starting up your IRC client. This can be done by clicking Xchat at the top left corner and then choose "NetworkList". Than just click Quakenet and choose at the middle right the "Edit" option. When you've done that somewhere at the bottom you should see something called "Connectionrequest" (not sure about the english word). Here you just type: auth username password. Replace ofcourse username and password by your own username and password. Then just click close and also close your "NetworkList". (Wont show a screenshot because then you all can login with my account)

Step 4: Connecting and adding channels
If you just wish to connect to a certain channel just type in the chatbox: /connect #channel, e.g. /connect #element.ctf Do notice that if you would restart your irc you wouldn't be connected again to that channel. You will have to type that command once again.

If you wish to connect automaticly to certain channels you have to click Xchat in the top left corner and click "NetworkList" again. Just as on the previous step you go to edit "Quakenet". Above the "Connectionrequest" option you should see something called "Favourite Channels". Just press the "..." and you can add, remove and edit channels. When done just close again (also the "NetworkList") and you are done!

Additional commands:

  • Colors: Before typing just press: Ctrl + k and a number, the number represents the color you are going to type in.

    Color list:
    1 - Black
    2 - Navy Blue
    3 - Green
    4 - Red
    5 - Brown
    6 - Purple
    7 - Olive
    8 - Yellow
    9 - Lime Green

    11 - Aqua Light
    12 - Royal Blue
